Around the World Cycle Race

Hi, I’m Richard Dunnett,
On the 18th February 2012 I will be setting off on my bicycle from London, not just to ride around the world but to RACE AROUND THE WORLD in the first ever global bicycle race! I will be riding 18,000 miles alone and un-supported, through some of the toughest countries in the world and will average 125 miles per day!
The current Guinness world record is set by Vin Cox (the race organiser) at 163 days 6 hrs and 53 minutes. My target is 160 days. I feel that with the correct preparation this is going to be possible. This is not just a great opportunity to push the limits of what is possible on a bicycle, but also an opportunity to raise money for a great charity.
I am very pleased to be be raising money for Make-A-Wish Foundation. The work that they do to grant magical wishes to children and young people fighting life threatening illnesses is truly inspirational.
The start/finish will be in Greenwich Park, London – the prime meridian and home of Greenwich Mean Time. The winner should ideally finish just before the start of the 2012 Olympics (27th July). This gives 160 days to arrive back before the start of the Olympics. The world’s sporting press will be in London and looking for a good story before the start of the Olympics.
As with all expeditions there is a great cost that I will have to raise in order to complete my ride. The estimated cost is £20,000. This will cover insurance, Visas, Accommodation, Equipment, Flights, Food and much more. Although I am hoping to get main sponsors I will need to rely on small donations. You can donate directly and securely to my race funds through the PayPal link - using either your PayPal account, debit/credit card or e-bank transfer. Please enjoy searching my website and any donations will be very much appreciated to help me achieve my goal.
Thank you.
