Diamond Jubilee 2012
Background
In 2012, HM Queen Elizabeth II celebrates 60 years reign. The May Bank Holiday has been moved to Mon 4th Jun and there is to be a Diamond Jubilee Bank Holiday on Tue 5th Jun. This page lists those events in Occold and surrounding parishes which are being organised to mark this occasion. It will be updated as and when more information becomes available.
Commemorative Mugs
Occold Parish Council will be presenting commemorative mugs to all children in the village of primary school age and under. The mug will be inscribed "Presented by Occold Parish Council". Please contact the Parish Clerk (parishcouncil@occold.com) if you are the parent/carer of any child that falls into the above category but who does not attend either pre-school or primary school in the village.
A few additional mugs will be available with the same inscription to enable parents to purchase them (at cost price) for, perhaps, older children.
Jubilee Beacon
It will be lit on the playing field on Monday 4th June at 10:15pm. Note - it has to be this late, since we are registered as one of 2012 official beacons to be lit around the country, and have been given a specific time to light it - see Diamond Jubilee Beacons.
Fireworks Display
A short fireworks display to follow the lighting of the beacon - on the playing field. Donations to cover the cost of fireworks are invited.
Big Lunch/Tea
On Sunday 3rd June, to be held from 2.00pm onwards. This will be on the pub and village hall car parks (weather permitting), if not, in the village hall. The lunch/tea will be on a BYO basis and BBQ's will be provided for people to cook their own food as well, if desired. The pub are holding a beer/food festival over that same week-end, so this is planned to run alongside of that and therefore, people may wish to purchase food and drink from the pub. There will be live music during the afternoon.
As well as bringing their own food/drink etc. people are asked to bring their own tables/chairs/gazebos etc and decorate these accordingly, although a few 'communal' tables will be set up so that those who aren't able to be with a group of friends/family, will be able to sit on these and join in the fun. A prize will be given for the best decorated table. All age fancy dress is encouraged, on a 'royalty' theme - again a prize will be given for the winner. A mobile ice cream cart will be along at some point during the afternoon, to enable ices to be purchased. It is envisaged that this event will carry on into the evening - for those that have no homes to go to!!

I'll kick it off with an idea....
Get a sponsor to run a competition for the best decorated village. Get the local news involved to judge and photo. Everyone put bunting out on 2-5 Jun

Sorry owing to a very bad cold cannot make it tonight but I have the following ideas
(a) Can the Church be floodlit for that weekend.
(b) Take part in the Great Lunch on the 4th
(c) followed by a tea for the children of the village
I don't think we should holdanything on the 3rd the day of the ~Thames procession surely most people will want to watch this on tv as it takes place
Will be prepared to help anyh day apart from the 3rd when I will be glued to the tv.
