The Occold Community Choir offers people the opportunity to enjoy making music together in a relaxed and informal way, singing a wide range of songs that are both familiar and new. The emphasis is on being part of a community, having fun and meeting others who share an interest in music and singing. There is something special about music; it can stir our emotions and lift our hearts.
Scientific studies demonstrate how singing in a group can have all kinds of positive effects on your health and well-being, increasing the flow of feel-good hormones and improving your mental health. Furthermore, learning something new can help to boost your self-esteem and confidence. So discover the uplifting feeling of submerging yourself within the group and making music with others.
Our consumer-orientated world encourages us to believe that only the best singers should sing. Many people feel that they can't sing. Many feel that their voice isn't good enough. But we believe, as the Zimbabwean proverb says, ‘If you can walk you can dance, if you can talk you can sing.'
The Occold Community Choir does not hold auditions. You do not need to read music. Just come along and join in. We plan to hold sessions twice a month in the new year.
